We are recruiting for a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer/Principal level Designer to join a highly respected design consultancy in Cumbria, supporting projects within the nuclear sector. Salary is up to circa £54,000 plus bonus scheme, regular overtime, pension, critical illness cover, flexible working and leadership development
Responsibilities:
• Lead and supervise a technical team in delivering high-quality mechanical design solutions
• Oversee the implementation and delivery of design support packages for a nuclear site
• Ensure design outputs meet client specifications for manufacturing, installation, and commissioning
• Develop plant and equipment designs using industry-standard methodologies
• Provide training and mentorship to enhance technical team capabilities
• Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, safety standards, and quality assurance systems
Skills & Experience Required for the Lead Designer role:
• Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
• Proven leadership experience in a design or engineering team
• Strong knowledge of design tools, techniques, HAZOPs, and calculation packages
• IOSH Managing Safely Professional Certification
• Competent in the production of standard deliverables, including design calculations
• Awareness of CDM regulations and industry compliance
• Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or willingness to work towards it
• Previous experience in a regulated work environment with quality assurance systems
