FINTEC recruit is seeking a Junior Software Engineer for our UK astronomy client who work with customers globally, working with some of the worlds largest telescopes.. This is a permanent position which would be suited to a recent graduate with some software experience, either from employment or as part of a degree Course. 'On the job training' will be provided to further develop in the role. You will be working with a talented team of scientists and software engineers for a unique and expanding business.
The role offers Hybrid working, 40% of time spent in the Dunfermline, Fife office. Initially working full time in the office, reverting to hybrid following probationary term. Salary is £25,000 to £35,000 plus private medical healthcare, contributory pension plus other benefits. There will be some international travel to client facilities within Europe and Chile.
Responsibilities:
- Involved in developing software that controls telescopes and instruments used in astronomy as well as ‘big science’ projects
- Specialise in design, implementing and maintaining software for applications used by astronomical observatories and accelerator facilities
Skills and Qualifications required for the Junior Software Engineer role:
- Experience or training in developing scientific or technical software applications in a Linux environment with C++, C or a scripting language (e.g. Python)
- Background in physics/astronomy and experience of control or real-time software would be an advantage, either from degree course or from employment
- First Degree or higher (Masters/Doctoral) degree
